What Does a Send-Off With Vanilla Ice Cream mean?
Vanilla. Plain. Boring. Unadventurous.
If given the choice of any known ice cream flavor in the entire universe as your last hurrah before encountering major life change, and you pick vanilla, what does that mean?
Most would say it means all the things I started with. Plain. Boring. Etc.
And, ‘most’ people are probably right. But, I like to think I’m not most people. I’m also fairly comfortable being wrong. And, most importantly, I like being contrarian.

My Point
Vanilla ice cream is wonderful. It has far grander implications beyond the vanilla (😉) accusations plain and unadventurous.
When made the ice cream of choice for a last hurrah before a big life change, it symbolizes a back-to-basics foreshadowing of the change to come. Vanilla ice cream signifies a return-to-form, a simplifying of the complexities. Vanilla ice cream is cozy and predictable. It sweetens your pallet without over stimulating your mind. Vanilla ice cream is pure. Vanilla ice cream embodies the beauty and elegance of simplicity. Vanilla ice cream is stability. It is the foundational flavor.
Vanilla ice cream as a symbolic send off signifies peace amongst chaos, and I find it wonderful.
