Life Is like a Rubik's Cube

Like is like a Rubik's cube.

I don't know if you've solved one before.

If you have, you know that in order to solve it, you need to, seemingly, destroy all of your progress thus far in order to proceed.

First you start by choosing a color and making a cross. The edges of your chosen color, must match their sides with the center of your color and the color of the adjacent center.

Once you have your cross, you need to slot in the corners.

This step requires moving the edge pieces you've already placed correctly away from their home center so that the wrong corner piece they are connected to can be replaced with the right one.

Once the swap is made, the edge piece, along with its corner friend, is returned home to your starting color's center.

Once all of the corners are in place, you have one layer of the 3x3x3 cube complete. Including the centers, 14 out of 27 pieces are placed correctly after this first phase.

You're more than halfway done.

Now you flip the cube over, placing your completed face downward so you both can see what you need to do, and can't see what's about to happen.

The starting cross can be done without undoing your progress. Finishing the corners requires removing what we've done, adding a piece and placing everything back right away. It's uncomfortable, but the progress can still be seen.

We turn our cube over, because to solve the next layer will require removing more than half of our correct pieces. Seeing this destruction can cause those unfamiliar with the process to react with anxiety and make mistakes.

This is only the beginning. With every piece we place correctly, the more we must undo our progress in order to take the next step.

Once our second layer is complete, we make cross on the top face, the one opposite where we began. Once our cross looks complete, we align the edges so they can be fulling complete.

All along the way we destroy and fix everything we've done along the way.

Finally, we are left with the corners. Once they are in the correct place, the only thing left is to rotate them correctly.

This final step is the most daunting of all. We must seemingly jumble the entire cube until it magically returns to solved.

R' D' R D.

We repeat until one of our corners is solved.

Though this one corner is solved, the entire rest of the cube is left in shambles.

We must now choose to trust the process and move onto the next corner.

And then mysteriously, all is well. The entire cube is solved.

One misstep in this final act would leave the cube in shambles and you either starting over or sending the cube into a wall.

But if you trust the process, all will be well and you will have solved a Rubik's cube.

Life is like a Rubik's cube.

Trust the process. It'll all be okay.

You are Love.
