Legal Documents Should Be Illegal
We've all check the box that says we've read and agree to the terms and conditions without having ever read those terms.
Well, I think things like that should be illegal.
I get that the world is more complicated than my wishes, but I'm going to share how I would like things to work anyways. Wildly uninformed and everything.
I am of the opinion that the only legal contracts that should be allowed to exist are simple ones. Everyone should be able to simply and easily be able to know what exactly they are agreeing to without needing a couple of hours and a law degree to read the terms.
Conditional clauses are poppycock. To quote biblical wisdom, 'let your yes be yes, and your no be no.' Anything more complicated than a simple yes or no statement is unnecessary.
Yes, I will pay for such and such house for such and such price at such and such rate of interest.
What more does a mortgage contract need that isn't predatory towards the one signing?
One idea I have that may bridge the gap between minimal and complex contracts is simply including multiple yes or no agreements.
What we currently have is an all or nothing system where the signer is given the option to read a massive wall of legalese or lie and skip straight to the cat videos.
How about instead we give more options in a clearer manner.
Yes, you can use my data to show me better cat videos.
No, you cannot sell my data to third-parties.
Yes, you can email me cat videos.
No, you cannot email me dog videos you think I might like.
I want something like that. I want to live and be treated like a human, by other humans.
No, I do not agree to be treated like a human to resource hungry aliens.
