I Finally Found my Grammar Companion
Grammar tools have always been a thorn in my side.
For a while, there have really only been two options. Grammarly, and LanguageTool
I'm too stingy to pay for Grammarly, and use open-source tools as much as possible. So, for me, the only option was LanguageTool.
However, in recent times, both tools have fallen downhill, in my opinion, but adding AI. I want to write without any AI assistant. So now I'm SOL.
I tried using classic tools like Aspell and some other prose linters. While I love Aspell, the prose linters for grammar weren't interactive (or, I didn't know how to make them interactive at the time).
So, I stuck to using my old LanguageTool integrated program Gramma for CLI grammar checking. To feel better about myself, I first used Aspell for spelling, and told myself I was using the lowest tier of LanguageTool and it probably didn't have any AI used.
But then I found the tool of my dreams!
Private. Open-source. Local. I'm pretty sure no AI. (I think they use similar algorithms to find errors, but not LLMs). Available in the terminal though and easy to integrate lsp.
I couldn't ask for more.
