Books are Rebellion
I recently watched a video about books by Craig Benzine (WheezyWaiter).
It made me realize that reading books is a rebellion against the attentions economy.
So, just some quick ideas on that point.
They break you out of the fast paced hustle.
There's nothing trying to get your attention to get you to read them. Everything else is pulling you away from what you intend on intending to.
Physical books are even better. Audiobooks are still good, but they keep going if your train of thought derails.
Physical books can cause you to have branching thoughts of your own. When this happens, you are free to explore the ideas until you are done and want to get back to reading. For this to happen with audiobooks, videos, or any other form of content, you must pause your thoughts in order to pause the playback feed that's trying to suck you in, away from your own thoughts.
Just that second of needing to pause what's happening around you in order to think your own thoughts is enough to let them slip from your grip.
In a world that is constantly trying to capture and strangle your attention, visually reading is rebellion.
You are Love.
